We took an amazing 2 week adventure to Ecuador. Our trip started in Quito and we spent one day at the Quito Teleferico where you ride a tram up a mountain to approximately 13, 500 feet! We rushed through the city to the UNASUR building and then straddled the equator line at the Mitad del Mundo or Middle of the world. Just around the corner from there is the Intinan Solar Museum which is home to the actual equator line that was determined based on GPS hundreds of years after the initial line was determined. This museum is home to a cultural adventure, looking deeper into the Ecuadorian people years ago.
The next day we headed towards Mindo, stopping first at Reserva Geobotanica De Pululahua. This is a dormant volcano that several families are currently living and farming in the rich soils of the crater. Our second stop was for some amazing zip lining through the Mindo Cloud Forest. We also stopped at the Butterfly farm, the Hummingbird Hut and had a tour of the Mindo Chocolate Makers grounds and tasted some amazing flavors.
The next day we spent on Quito City Tour visiting buildings such as the Iglesia De San Francisco, the first church ever built in Quito. We visited the Basilica Del Voto Nacional and were in awe of its beauty.
Then we were off to the Galapagos to Santa Cruz Island where we toured the Giant Tortoise Sanctuary and the underground lava tunnels. We spent 4 days scuba diving and saw things so many creatures, I will never be the same.
We headed to Isla Isabela by boat and spent the day kayaking and wandering the island to see Flamingos and visit a Tortoise Breeding Center and hundreds of marine iguanas.
We took a 4 mile walk up and around the Sierra Negra Volcano see all kinds of birds, critters and flowers along the path. After a few days enjoying the beauty of this island we headed back to Guayaquil for a city tour and then it was back to the states to our jobs.
What an amazing adventure! I hope to return someday!
